The Idea

Tags have proven to be an extremely effective and intuitive mechanism that allows people to label content for categorization, filtering, search and discovery. TagIt email will take these benefits and bring them to Outlook email. TagIt is an Outlook Add-in that enables users to tag their e-mails through easy to use interface and which will enable a more effective use of email. The Outlook category feature currently allows users to >tag> email with a category, however, the interface is cumbersome and does not truly enable all the benefits of tags as they are found in many Web 2.0 applications. TagIt will extend the category feature in Outlook to add the additional features needed to boost user productivity and bring the full Web 2.0 feature set of tagging to Outlook. Additionally, TagIt will design a new UI that integrates tags with Outlook"s mailbox and message interface so that tagging capabilities are easy to access from any place the user needs them.

I thought of this idea when I was...

My brother-in-law and I were discussing ways to better manage the flood of email we get all the time and ways in which to more effectively store and access old email that you want to keep on file.

I'd like to see this, and proper Conversations ported from Gmail. Anyone know if these are possibly in Outlook 2007 that's coming out any minute now?

Hi,
You can change the subject-line to append some "tags" ;-)
Even by right clicking on the message, you can add some "tags" in the body of a message. + control-S
