This idea is based upon AndyDoan's popular "Film Funder" idea. It would use the exact same revenue model. Here's a link to that idea: http://www.cambrianhouse.com/idea-explorer/idea-promoter/ideas-id/6sYP43t/ The difference here is that instead of funding Films, you're funding proposed events, such as conferences, local gatherings, concerts, etc. For example, imagine that I want to start a conference for Ruby Developers. My only current option to fund such a thing would be to go to big companies seeking sponsorship. Ugh. Another example would be throwing a big "LAN Party" gathering. A fee can be charged for admission, but before you get to that point you need money for a venue, promotion (radio/internet/TV ads) and so forth. Investing in gatherings of this sort should be just as easy as investing in an independent film. Remember: Many popular things start out small and then grow later. I want it to be easier to start those small things.
Thinking about ways to take popular CH ideas further...and thinking of a way to rewrite a rejected idea that I submitted. :)
Very interesting idea, I think it has potential as a crowd-drawer and this crowd has money in its pockets.
I vote +
By the way, including the examples really worked - i was going to vote - before reading them.
Could be a spin-off for Robinhood fund ?
I like it although I have my doubts; if I invested in this how do I get my return and when and at what rate? Sickani you like everything, what's up with that?
Quavistar: I can assure you that sickanimations does not love every idea. He's come down on at least one of mine, so I know. ;)
The way you'd make money back on your investment could be negotiated up front, but in general you should imagine it'd work the same way investments would make money back in the FundableFilms.com concept. I would guess that in general the idea is that you'd agree to pay some percentage of your "entry fee" or associated earnings back to the investor.
really cool idea... events make a lot of money if done right, but cost a lot to start!
you should consider working on this with CH... they want to do expos.
Did it work?
