Amid all the web designers, hosting companies and other online services; how does a potential client find the right company to use? The client usually hires someone they know or a friend of a friend or does an exaustive search online. The idea here is to have a website directory that lists the trusted companies in the aforementioned fields. Making it a one-stop shop for clients. Each company and client can be rated and reviewed, contacted, post profiles, submit RFPs, post projects and the likes. Fees may be charged on either end for any of the services provided. (*NOTE - This idea can apply to any web business)
Tired of searching for hours online to find a decent desginer or programer.
Isn't there already a Better Business Bureau for online companies?
yup...there is and there was... and there will be more similar watchdog more to come...
several companies already performing this service.
It all ready exists Better Business Bureaus.
Decent designer and programmer reporting for duty!
I like the idea though I think it will have some challenges. How will you ensure that a company is one of those "trusted companies"? Will you have a disciplinary process for companies that fall from grace?
You might also run into a case of the big code houses with deep pockets tilting the scales in their favor. They might have the clout and influence (on you the site owner) to push the smaller shops around.
LinkedIn provides something similar with the "recommendations" functionality. You can find soomeone who is "recommended by a friend of a colleague" sort of thing...
i believe it has been done
This is similar to several ideas I've read recently - in concept if not in the exact area you want to apply it to. I think next week I'll submit an idea for a site to help me choose which site to help me choose which product to buy!
Being a bit more serious, it might be worth reading some of the other ideas and seeing if any are similar enough that you want to collaborate and share the workload. For something like this to succeed it has to be genuinely better than the competition in some way (even if that only means it's better-marketed!) so sharing ideas has to give you an advantage.
