The Elevator Pitch

For anyone who moves the body is a candidate that will most likely enjoy using this idea. Unlike people who doesn't like our product that is so cool.

The Idea

Technology exists today that creates energy when two oppositely charged entities pass each other in short distances (think of flashlights and radios that you either wind or shake). Why not create clothing that has slim pockets that have magnetic pieces sown in to them. Then, when you are walking, running, jogging or moving, you will create energy. This energy can then be used to charge cell phones and other electronic devices that you normally carry with you.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Hiking.

A lot of movement is necessary to create a meaningful amount of energy to power today's typical electronic devices. Your device might contribute a fair amount of weight to the wearer.

while you have sound principle in converting movement into energy, current technology relates nly to a converting movement associated with a structure...
You need an apparatus for converting useful movement into electrical energy, comprising: a smart material adapted to produce electrical energy when a force against the smart material is applied; and a plurality of coils in contact with the smart material for harvesting the electrical energy.

back to the lab! =)

Maby create clothes for cold countries where the energy will be used to create heaT?

I have seen solar power cloths. However this idea that you have would be very hard to make and not generate enough energy. I know some one did make a backpack generator. Was powered by your movement.

Nice idea, but magnetic pieces sewn into the pockets would have to be huge and bulky to create the kind of charge you need.

Maybe magnetic fabrics of some kind can be sewn on top of each other, or even woven so every part of the clothing has a possibility to create a charge. Eliminating the bulkiness of magnets sewn in to the fabric.

Reminds me of the water filter suit in dune.

Problems:

-generators actually make their energy by adding resistance. If it is not enough to notice, it's not enough to produce meaningful amounts of energy.

-weight (as previously mentioned)

-energy storage? What do you DO with it? Kinetic watches are a good idea, but it takes very little amounts of electricity to keep a watch moving, and if you're still thinking cell phones and PDA's, well, now you're into all sorts of voltage problems and adapters out the wazoo.

-Same clothes every day?

I think you'd be better off walking around with a solar panel strapped to your back.
