This is Match.com for parents:
If you’ve just moved to an area or just having kids, this site would let you screen parents in an area. You can filter across various dimensions like food preferences, tv habits, computer habits, aspirations, etc. and have the ability to do some scheduling, create play dates or babysitting, child care, etc. A babysitter could be reviewed and manage his or her schedule through this site, for example.
...wondering how I would ever find parents in the neighborhood that held similar child rearing beliefs.
Not bad at all. Nice one. 5* for the simplicity.
I second Firefox, but have a question: Will you have a rating system?
Make sense to me too!
that is awesome! i can't tell you how difficult it is to be a parent who thinks outside of the box. it really alienates my little girl simply because i don't play well with others.
some really cool potential in the branding as well.
I like this idea as well. Definitely have to have geography in mind - a match of a parent across town in a place like DC is terrible because I won't drive 1 1 1/2 hours for a playdate... ;]
playdate! might be a good idea for a name..
an interesting idea I might use it ....
I think it's a great idea, though I wonder about the parent's willingness to be really honest....I don't anticipate a most parents admitting that they keep an unlocked firearm in the house for example.....or that they let their kids watch 6 hours of TV a day. (Ideally parents will use this service in-addition-to and not in place of a personal relationship.) I do think that it would be an excellent tool for matching interests----music, sports, etc. My kids do both and "music" parents understand and appreciate music instruction more that team sports and vice versa. I wouldn't want to be the only "music" mom mixed in a group of pop-warner football moms....and vice versa...(I can say that and get away with it because I'm both....:)
i like this... i like the playdate name too!
Thanks everyone. I think beincollusion has some valid concerns. We could build in a rating system but in reality, this has to be used in conjunction with other items - kinda like online dating I suppose.
I am not a parent by the way, just neurotic :). Also, I'm not all that technical and given the enthusiasm on this thread, I would really like to recruit some of you for help developing this idea. If you would be interested, please drop me a line and I'll form an email loop. We can crowdsource a small site and I have plenty of contacts to pursue some additional financing. Cheers.
Why the hell would anyone want to give up all of this personal information and post it on the web??? Also, how in the world are you going to get people to gather the information in the first place?
Anohter parents social club? Schools and homeowners is too mucuh for me already?!
This is a very good idea, I think
