The Idea

Experts Exchange is an interesting service but they miss the boat on adding video screen captures to the problems they solve. Mimic the experts exchange idea only add camtasia screen recordings and you have marketplace for answers and demonstrations. Make it so anyone who is an expert on a particular application can monetize their expertise by recording a series of tutorials and selling them via your store. It allows techies to show off their skillz but also compiles the largest database of elearning material and sells it under a consignment model so people get paid as their materials are consumed.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I did a Robodemo tutorial awhile ago on how to setup Compiere opensource ERP under windows and Fyracle. It occurred to me that I was doing it various reasons (save others the trouble, get more traffic to my blog, show expertise). I realized there is a market for facilitating this type of exchange more easily.

Is it something we could sell as an add-on to EE?

Sounds like a good idea. I would probably see it more as a new feature for existing sites, rather than a whole new concept in itself. Perhaps if CH ever starts a consulting business (building features for existing sites), this could definitely be one of them!

@Ian,
probably so. I would think it would be much easier to tack this onto the ExpertsExchange offering rather than develop all that from scratch. That site has amazing SEO and consistently appears as a top result in google when i lookup error messages. Piggybacking their offering is the way to go with this one- good call.

@PyschSplash - i would disagree. I see WatchTheMaster as becoming a clearinghouse for video tutorials and a marketplace of elearning knowledge. There's room for trainers of all kinds- the highly-skilled niche experts explaining those advanced gems in Quickbooks or the entry-level trainers who are simply good at communicating the basics to n00bs. either way there's a market for both and seems like it would be a great standalone service. I'm new here (1 day old on CH) so pardon my naivete if a similar project already exists, I haven't had a chance to scope everything yet.
