Cambrian House

Cambrian House is a very interesting idea - crowdsourced software. Their goal is to leverage the wisdom of crowds to both receive as well as filter business ideas, code and creative content.
Ken Yarmosh, Jul 2006

Cambrian House began as a crowdsourcing community using a wisdom of crowds based approach to discover new business and technology ideas. These pages are being kept online as a technology demo to showcase Chaordix™.

The Elevator Pitch

For businesses who value time and money the Land Line to Mobile Device Automated Forwarding is a device that improve the time it takes to reach another person. Unlike other forwarding services this device is automated based on hardware located in the phone that instantly forwards calls to a mobile line when an individual leaves a certain proximity to their land line our product is similar to technology that is already used in probation and for individuals under house arrest and applies it to businesses..

The Idea

A device that automatically forwards a land line and/or work line to your private and/or Cell phone. If the device exceeds the predetermined limit of the device all incoming calls will be forwarded to the mobile device. The caller will be connected automatically. Privacy could be protected for the model device or phone because the caller will only be aware of the Land line/ Work number and not the mobile.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Being in the office and missing calls when ever I left. I didn’t want to miss specific calls but wanted the ability to keep my cell private. I figured that my idea would allow people to reach each other more efficiently and increase productivity while lowering costs because "Time is money".

Exactly! Time is money and business owners should not miss any calls. Have you seen The Devil Wears Prada? Your idea is beyond great yet it is so easy and simple. We shouldn't keep on transferring, forwarding or programming our phones and it should be easy and seamless like your idea. Great idea!

While I don't think it would be practical as a hardware component of a land line, I suggest we brainstorm around an ANDROID service which monitors your location, and (by dialing appropriate numbers to alter call forwarding settings) as needed directs calls to either land line or mobile.

Is there enough upside to bother? I believe it could be done. Or another way of thinking about it would be, lets route calls to a Skype number when we're in WiFi range... a more generic call forwarding app based on location data.

Does anyone see a demand for that? Or a broader application I'm overlooking?

I have seen a motorola J2ME contest in my region and the ultimate winner is about directing calls to another number when you forgot to bring out your phone.

I.e. For their case..you logon to a website to make the changes..the judges like it very much also.

It may have been done, but most people I know wouldn't use it - at work you choose who will have your cell phone number and who not.
