The Idea

Google earth now has a feature that allows you to upload pictures into the map so that you can see actual pictures and videos of loactions world-wide.
Since most people today have digital cameras or cell phones with cameras, it would be great to write a software where when you take a picture, it asks you if you want to upload to google earth based on your GPS location. The result will be the sourcing of pictures from people around the world and population of the map which would be amazing.
The software can have some type of "compas" so that it can place the picture/video with the right bearings (North, South, East or West).

I thought of this idea when I was...

Thinking seeing some pictures my friends sent me from travelling the world and how awesome it would be if other people could see them.

if you know how to code than code it for the mobile phone. There are a lot of developer kits out there that would be able to help. Also talk to google themselves because you would have to upload it to their servers via phone. Myspace and Facebook have that same type of functionality with mobile devices. Careful though, Google just might steal your idea because it is good.

Sounds like a nice Android module. I'd use it.

I agree with Siddey it would make a nice android program.

Really nice. Video would be a nice option as well. Do you have any idea on how to monetize this?

It is an application I think google would pay for but you could build a database of pictures worldwide that would be very valuable especially given the accuracy of location.
In times of natural disasters, wars or even positive events, you could benefit from locals uploading pictures in real time creating a historic photo database which could serve many legal and economic purposes.

I second Ssiddey, Kevin, and Checoslovaco - but you need a cool, easy to remember name for it.

The idea is nice, so of course people are making efforts to do it, the link here may be good research material:

the challenge with making an app to do this will be to make it cross platform on many mobiles.

You may want to look at Navizon.com for another geo input mechanism.

I think this is a great idea and will undoubtedly be the future for mapping. Can the different properties in the digital images be labelled backed up with software to co-ordinate the image into 3D? I see this definitely working but I'm not sure if the technology is up to speed yet??
This is cool.
I have another idea which I haven't posted yet which could integrate very well into this application.
Cheers

I found this article today.

It is called Geotagging and it seems the technology is there already.

Geotagging has been done for quite a long time.

"It is an application I think Google would pay for "
OK... I would not get your hopes up to high on a Google buy out exit strategy. Lets focus on other ways to monetize.

Haha every nice, it sounds like the all seeing eye or god is coming after all. I think this would help the socioeconomical theories because of the inequalities. Such as, accessing computers, accessing internet, being able to search, being able to know about your idea, being able to process this thought, being able to see what comes after your brilliant idea. It is NWO. Where a company or government buys the google corporation and tracks down potential Terrorist. lol jk...it will expand human consciousness and evolve and perpetuate intellectual capital. In the future, employees will be paid to search for content and innovate from the content, therfore creating a market niche in innovation. Creating Super Cognitive Solutions that make the problem never there...as if this "problem" never existed. Which is called Psychics, not physics.

This could easily be made into an application for the iphone and i believe the technology is out there it is a matter of puttin git together. If anyone decides to do it keep me in mind.
