The Idea

After creating an account on this site, you are invited to from a genre of quotes, or wisdom from a catalog, or upload a list of your own (CSV with quote, author or something). Then you can define your notification preferences - have an SMS sent to you every day at 8:45 (right before you walk in the door of your God-forsaken job) - or have one emailed to you every hour, on the hour. Looking for more quantity? Log in to the site where your wisdom is presented to you, one-at-a-time, in nice big 21 px. Georgia. Real big so it sinks in. Bonus opportunity - iPhone app! Service could be based on nominal recurring subscription (say, a buck a month or something). Free service would be ad supported (of course).

I thought of this idea when I was...

I have a boat load of quotes I've collected over the years, but it's just too overwhelming to dig through them. I'm sure they'd be valuable to me, but as it is, they aren't very helpful.

It sounds very doable, although pretty obvious. Whatever is blocking me from getting tons of SMS spam on my phone will probably block your service.

Automatic SMS messages... does anyone know what the economics are behind that? I doubt there's a public API somewhere which you just bounce your outgoing messages (and phone numbers) off of.

What?

paying for bulk sms is possible

http://www.clickatell.com/

prices start at 0.022 euros per message

Plus they have parts about revenue sharing for short codes. (I don't know what that means)

Why on your phone?
There so many sites that do this.
Who would pay for this?

There are lots of sites that will send daily affirmations or encouragements of your choosing. Many of them are in a religious vein, but there are also some self-help and just general feel-good ones. They seem to survive, so you could certainly compete. The technology is trivial so it's mostly a marketing challenge.

I think the value in it is for people to be able to control the exact message/affirmations that are sent, not just the category.

It certainly wouldn't have to support SMS, but people receive and process information in different ways (maybe someone wants to be mailed a letter with an affirmation every day by USPS - if they were willing to pay for that, then...). Email would be a logical/economic way to distribute right-off the bat. Hook that in with the personal landing page and an RSS feed from the page and you cover a lot of bases.

There is a huge movement in the power of thought, the law of attraction, quantum mechanics, and movies such as What the Bleep Do We Know?! It is difficult to profit without a special technology (literal). Most entrepreneurs are offering courses to apply those famous quotes, or lectures and books.

Maybe focus on how you can have fun with the knowledge you created - wait how about this - NEW IDEA. A quotation signature generator (random every time, but based on preferences, b/c there are a lot of great quotes out there!) Create a simple program loaded with a database of famous inspirational quotes. Organize them to enable the user to set his/her general preferences as to the message or energy they want to convey. You could market this, one time software download or sell rights to mail client somewhere.

IN my country this sms feature is beeing done since way back by leading network providers...as a site i dunno how viable this would be since the "niche" is not anymore enticing have more players to add on their site list. SMS.ac is already hot on many links and add ons like this.

This idea has been done before and personally I would never use it.

I like this idea a lot. I think it could integrate well with a project I'm working on for Spoil On (previously spoil my spouse). I've sent you a PM to talk about working together.

I'd love to know where it's being done. I honestly haven't been able to find some place that will let me add my own content. I always have to use other's content. Help?
