I do a lot of technical support and some of it covers apps I actually support but a lot of it ends up becoming "educating people on how to use a PC", "other software on their PC that might be causing a problem", "misconfigured security software" and so on. For all these reasons as well as more general helping out friends, neighbours and providing technical support for a living I propose creating a remote help application. This would build on top of windows remote desktop connection or similar but the customer and provider would be able to set a support rate in advance, e.g. $20/hour. Thereafter, when the person is connected and doing work you can see the meter ticking away and know how much the bill is and you can disconnect the person and stop the bill going up at any time. The system works by customers preloading an account with credit using paypal, then having this automatically debited at the end of the session. The service takes a percentage. Customers can then rate who helped them so that good guys get more work.
what happens: People put up a request for help and potential helpers reply, or people search for help on the database of helpers and pick one that has a good feedback rating and relevant skills.
This fits with my idea - Consulting suite which provides the software for the "professional" to consult from. It includes invoice and payment methods as well as different form of communication, chat, email, VOiP, and file exchange capabilities.
You have added the real-time element to this with a focus on tech support. My focus was on counselling/consulting. My idea is having its arse kicked though so perhaps it is not a popular idea
very nice... a major segmet of the clients understand Techical support differently..this "service" would definitely of help!
