The Elevator Pitch

For people who don't want to worry about being electrocuted the Shock Stopper is a safety product that protects fingers from being shocked by electrical outlets. Unlike no other product our product truly protects you and your loved ones and anyone in contact with your electrical outlets.

The Idea

I have an idea to help make electrical outlets safer in the home and anywhere there's an eletrical outlet.

This is my first listed idea, so if by not letting all the information out isn't correct.. then my apologies.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I am a dad, so after seeing my youngest son zap himself.. the idea came to me.

Hi stringserver. I’m not familiar with the outlets in Mexico but in Europe you can buy “fingersave” outlets everywhere. So I’m not so sure what your idea is en whether it’s new.

stringserver, you need to be more specific about the problem and the solution.

Are you talking about sub-standard electrical outlets, or outlets that meet the safety standards in the USA (for example)?

I am not sure if you are attacking a problem of "user error" or a design standards flaw in electrical equipment. The first would be amenable to a consumer-purchased over-the-counter solution; the second is a big systemic problem. Which is closest to the situation you propose?

childproof outlet covers are available in many shapes and sizes..in many cases they are a dime a dozen. So unless you have something revolutionary...I don't get it.

I have never been shocked by a outlet... I think this is just over engineering or a problem that is not a problem.

Do you have a visual or design at hand we could check or see? It would be easy to give a vote to some invention we could make a basis of judgement than the usual explanation. As you can see most of us somehow have different or the same thing in mind of your IDEA being presented a "child friendly e-outlet"

agreed w/ GL- large amount of inertia involved in changing an electrical standard if that's what you're proposing. the child-proof inserts for outlets seem to solve the problem adequately- can you clarify what you're proposing?

Good intention but not planned thoroughly....

Thanks for the comments, everyone. It's more along the lines of for the plugs that are connected. Yes, I know there are plenty of plastic pieces to insert into unused outlets, but this is for the outlets that are being used. Kids have had acces to those and played with the cord and gotten zapped. This would alleviate that. And yes, it's for US standard outlets.

I guess I'm just a little leary of putting the idea out there in detail and having it snagged, you know?
