The Idea

A user-driven content based site that would host a collection of job profiles. Essentially the site would be a facebook for jobs. Instead of having a personal profile, a person would have a job profile"What do you "do"? would be the tagline, and people would post up their job description. This is NOT a job posting site, but rather a site where people can see what types of jobs are out there. The site could be used for educational and entertainment purposes. A job profile might include sections such as, job title, short description, long description, education required, experience required, appealing aspects, unappealing aspects. In addition to these sections, various scales or drop down menus would be included on each profile, examples might be salary/travel/indoor/outdoor/work-life balance etc. Users would be able to search thru the profiles by these drop down menus. A forum would also be created for each job profile. The purpose of the forum would be for users who have a specific question regarding the occupation.
How does this site differ from others? Well there are a few job profile sites currently out there, this one is different because it would be user-driven content. Essentially its a doctor telling you what a doctor does and not a career counsellor telling you what a doctor does. How to generate revenue? 1) Partnership with monster/workopolis, say you have a profile for a nurse, have a link at the bottom of the page to nurse postings on monster 2) Partnership with various industry associations, ie. nurses of alberta want to promote their profession, so have a link to their site off each nurse profile 3) Ad space when site becomes next Facebook.
What motivation do people have to post up their job profile? Well the big one is self promotion, many industries are in desperate need for people and its in their best interest to find qualified people.

I thought of this idea when I was...

When I was thinking that there are tons of really cool/well paying/challenging jobs out there but people never hear about them. Basically all we know is jobs that our parents/friends do and JOBFOLIO would be a site where people can go and search by various criteria and discover all the interesting jobs out there.

This could be a good way to create my resume: first to use a generic job description from your site, then customize it to my requirements
