Basically the idea is a standard bar code reader with an LCD screen attached to grocery carts, that will tally up the price total that you have in your shopping cart. As you grab the groceries off of the shelf just scan them on the bar code reader before you place them in your cart. This will help eliminate going over budget, as well as if you are under budget, to not be so conservative. The LCD screen could also recommend other foods based on your habits of the foods you already scanned. There could be 2 Revenue streams, one from the Grocery Store to the Company that is leasing, selling, and servicing these scanner's to them, and two from certain food companies who choose to advertise on the scanner's screen.
I thought of this idea when I was about 9 years old, in the supermarket with my mother. Money was tight at the time and I could hear her mumbling adding the prices together in her head to not go over budget. Back then I just thought of having a calculator on the grocery cart, but now, it makes more sense to have the bar code scanners and a simple software loaded onto them.
