The Idea

Pay $1, enter a phone number and choose a song -- the phone number will be called and the song will be played. At the end of the song, it will speak your name with Text-to-speech or an uploaded audio clip. The service will be web-based and will not require any signup or registration, simply a quick PayPal payment. The marketing would be slanted towards couples where the song would be dedicated to the person's significant other.

I thought of this idea when I was...

.. my friend A.B. actually thought of this and both of us agreed it was a cool idea.

This is a really novel idea. I could see myself using it occasionally to show someone a song they never heard of, just can't see this happening very often. Are there any other uses for it?

Thanks for the comments. I think a popular use would be to do something nice for your girlfriend / boyfriend by playing "their song" .. something that is special for both of you.

I would probably be confused if I just heard a song start playing when I answered the phone. Perhaps put the sender's name and message up front, so the recipient realizes what is being delivered?

Sounds like a good match for Spoil My Spouse (http://www.cambrianhouse.com/community/market-test-spoil-my-spouse) and could be one of the products that Spoil My Spouse offers.

Cute idea - I think it needs some significant refinement - like I think playing the whole song could suck in most cases - perhaps the sender could have the option of sending either the whole song or a kind of iTunes preview clip. I suspect the majority of users would go for the clip as it'll totally have the intended effect without dragging on and on.. Also, I think it'd be swell if a copy of the song was also emailed to the recipient.
