The Idea

Custom web-browser building. A service that allows companies, associations, individuals to customize the web-surfing experiences of their employees, members, and friends by developing a custom browser. Users state their requirements, and developers customize a pre-existing open-source browser to suit these requirements. Custom browsers are uniquely suited to specific industries. For example a psychology browser would need 1) pre-loaded psychology news feeds, journal search engines, academic bookmarking, p2p swap of literature/questionnaires/treatment protocols, online counselling plugins. Browser comes complete with it's own homepage that provides a tutorial on how to use it. Companies/associations can re-coup some costs by entering into some advertising arrangements with relevant organizations. As developers are paid to customize the browser, there is incentive to create new and cool plugins

I thought of this idea when I was...

each industry has specific requirements. Users are generally not motivated to customize or build their own browser.

when my idea is published, the Idea Title is "Software customized by SIC code". Could be applied to your idea, since your idea can generate revenue. :)

Hi Richard - thanks for the link - I will give that a go.

That site is pretty close, although specific to opera. I would like to see a range of browsers and also see a pay-for-service around customization where you pay a developer to build-in the specific functions. I am targeting a far less web-savvy audience.

Nice idea, it's not a 'must' but it is useful, if it can be done cheap.

Opera only is not good enough. If we're talking about a group of service providers and not something automatic we shouldn't have the restriction of anything - The client would have the power to choose which engine they want to use (IE, Gecko, Lynx etc.), the icons, graphics, custom buttons and menus.. Everything.

Very interesting, keep up the good work..
