If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is just one more step forward.Thomas Edison

Like Ning is a meta-site where people can make market-sites. Market like in a stock market. Items you can buy and sell which leads to a value for this item. This do not have to be real items, the goal is to find how valuable things are. . People could set up a market for anything they like. So think of football players, politicians, but maybe even fun things for small groups of friends, where they can have a market for who"s most likely to end up with a relationship with that girl. . You can use it to set up a market for Ideas (like idea warz), but you can also let others make their own markets using your site. This Wisdom market, would be a meta site. With the advantage of having all sorts of cool markets on your site. . A community of creative and active people hanging around is good. It might get some attention in the media if such a market delivers good predictions on what might happen on a field. That media attention has a positive effect on the cambrian house site as a whole.
Staring at this form screen searching for an idea. Inspired by: - Cambrian House - The book "The wisdom of crowds" - Ning.com update: I kind of think it has been done, so if someone knows a new angle to it, please comment.
so, like a social network where users can create groups which would consist of features to facilitate market activity?
i would think any social network could add a feature "Create a Market" which could more or less be a classified ads engine.
interesting idea, regardless.
Ok, I have not been really clear with the word market. I mean it like the stock market. The items are not real things you can buy, but things that have an (abstract) value. I'll change the text a little.
Unless I misunderstand, what you are talking about looks like http://www.tradesports.com/
hehe, found this link via the Cambrian FAQ, at the first look, it does what I thought of.
