The Idea

Create a yahoo like classification hierarchy with search facilities. Allow people to submit ideas to the tree for improving existing products, new products, services, etc. Allow people to vote on these ideas. Manufacturers could then use this as a resource when planning future product development and will be able to learn from the voice of the consumer. Prizes/royalties for people whose ideas get implemented.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Isn't this dmzo.org?

What about Squidoo Lens or similiar 'expert' type "resources" - where web sites or variations have a body that is their authority on a particular subject (presume that KB is searchable)

To Lal:

It's a dmoz hierarchy but geared not towards searching for sites but for building products and improving services.

This might be a good application for mind-mapping tools. They enable an idea to be fleshed out, expanded upon and envision all the possibilities.

A number of products, services, etc can have a mind map that others add value to.

If you do this, please come up with some sensible way to keep current ideas and ideas that have been voted up visible over the noise of daft suggestions and voted-down ideas that are bound to accumulate. It'll benefit people submitting ideas because they'll be more visible and people rating ideas because they won't have to wade through to find anything worth reading about.
