The Idea

I thought of an idea to have a motion detector feature on a house telephone. When you are leaving the house, you can set this telephone to automatically call your mobile phone when it detected a persistent motion in your "supposedly" empty house/apartment. This idea may not be for everybody but I can imagine some people who may buy this kind of telephone with a motion detector feature.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I thought of this idea when I was burglarised twice. I thought that having this kind of telephone with a motion detector can alert or made somebody aware that there is something going on in your place when it is supposedly empty.

Well you better not have any pets ;-).
Samme,
A lot of burglar alarms have the possibility to call the police or any other phone number. The burglar alarm work on the outside of your house, so already before entering. Once they are inside it’s already too late.

I agree with Vanhees and I think most burglar alarms are more professional then this. Maybe if you can add something that make it different it will be better.

Thank you vanhees and JelmerBV for your comments and friend request. As to your comments, yes I am aware that burglar alarms are more professional than this but not everybody can afford a burglar alarm. And yes once they are inside it is already too late. But having this nifty feature on your phone, don't you think a lot of people will buy this kind of telephone for their house? Like I said this does not work for everybody but there are a lot of other conditions that people may buy this for. Like those who live in dormitories, apartments, or other conditions that I may have not thought of. This telephone when equipped with this feature can sell worldwide. Yes not everybody will buy this but just think of the possibilities of sales. Yes this will not call the police nor will you call the police everytime you got an alert from your house phone. No you won't call the police but maybe you want to check it out why is your house phone detecting motions in your place. Yes you should only activate the motion detector feature when you are leaving the house and no one else that you know is coming in except you and that you should not have any pets or whatnot. Yes maybe you are too late to arrive for the robbery but maybe sometimes you won't and be able to catch, I don't know, a friend of yours who break in your place.

I actually have added this page to Digg.com for voting and so that people can see this page and become members here at Cambrian house.

I'd like a security system that I could feed audio/video to my cellphone (and of course to a private web page) so I could verify there is a problem when the alarm goes off and my phone rings. Whether it is an opened door or motion detector I don't care.

But I think there are so many established technologies in existing home security systems, I don't see quite what you are offering as different. Typically a security company is notified of a breach, then they call your cell phone asking if it was you that entered the wrong code (asking for a secret password to verify that it is really you).

You've a good point there Samme, if I look at your idea at that way it sounds like you very easily can make money!

P.S. Good that you've posted it at Digg.com =D

Thanks JelmerBV. Gordon please read the idea again and my comments about the idea again. I am not talking about security systems like I have already mentioned. Motion detector in a telephone is "different" as there is nothing like it "yet".

Samme, I understand that you mean to have this system as a monitoring system, but because it involves security it really seems to be trying to compete in the alarm system market.

Alarm systems are also fairly affordable these days, about $30 CAD a month.

Samme Posted: July 26, 2007, 1:34 pm

Please indulge me for a moment and think for a moment beyond Canada. A lot of people do not have an alarm system even though it is cheap like you said. How many apartments or dorms do you know that have alarm systems? I don't know either but the point here is not to compete with alarm companies. I think that this is a nifty feature on a phone that might drive huge sales.

Sounds like a good idea to me... particularly as many people have telephones in their hallways near to the main entrance of the house. Ok you might not be able to catch someone in the act, but even knowing the exact time of the break-in might prove to be an advantage later.

Check out my idea, we basically are trying to incorporate the same technology to different tasks. Well done !

There are plenty of alarm systems that will do that and much more.

Cameras make excellent motion detectors, and much webcam software only transmits images when they have changed...

Not sure I want to pay for a cellular contract for every security camera in my house... and worse still, if my (only) cellphone is watching the house for me, how does it notify me when there's something to see? Can't call me, cause I left my cellphone to watch the house...

Panasonic makes feature phones (for landlines) with camera capability, the motion detector thing would be a good feature, and they could call you on your cell...

Nice idea.
Even if lot of alarms can dot he job better, it might answer the needs of other populations than the ones who can afford paying several hundreds of €/$/£.

How is your product better than the TeleSpy(http://www.telespy.biz/)? TeleSpy calls people when it detects motion and allows them to listen to whatever is in the room. It also gives people the option to contact the police or not, so if it is Sparky, the dog, then there are no false alarms.

Thanks Fitzpatrick. Okay I fold this idea. The link that Fitzpatrick gave is exactly what I thought of. So somebody else had done it already.
true_daniel, no I am not on panic button. Are you? I am in "idea mode" or "inventing mode". How about you?

Don't see this working in the real world.
What about a motion detector that connected to your phone line, this would be more universal, and not specific to any telephone.

joyce

what a brillant idea you have!

ccozad
ccozad Posted: August 1, 2007, 2:26 am

I am not sure of the effectiveness of this. Would the phone detect motion all around it? What about rooms that don't have a phone in it?

This might play into another area for parents to monitor their child's phone usage... if they pick up the phone you will know.

Would this be something you attach to the phone? If the motion detector is detachable, can it be hooked up to anything? (attach it to anything you don't want room mates or family members messing with...)

TeleSpy
TeleSpy Posted: November 15, 2007, 11:34 am

I am the inventor/patent holder of TeleSpy. Sammy is dead on. TeleSpy is a simple security system for the masses. It detectects the presence of a warm body (over 65 lbs) in motion and issues a call to the property owner so he/she can listen in to determine "friend or for". If it's a real burglar, call the police. The "verified" call gives real time info and , unlike all other "unverified systems" cops, in turn give it high priority status. My website http://www.TeleSpy.biz shows it all. Now the owner has...24/7 monitoring, (near) instant notification and the ability to listen in. Best of all, NEVER pay monitoring fees. It's clearly better and...Free to operate!
