The Idea

PLPKG is "Portable Linux Package" . In Linux, Various Distribution like RedHat, Debian,Mandrake,Novell etc.. has their own software package builds for example on debian packages usually are of type .deb and in RedHat Distribution packages are of type .rpm and similarly other distribution has their own package builds. So, its very difficult ti maintain portability for these packages. Its difficult for RedHat Linux user to use .deb package and vice versa. but PLPKG will solve our that problem. if all package build vendors/engineers builds their package as .lpl package using PLPKG software then any linux distribution running PLPKG can use that package and thus provide the portability of linux package amongest various linux distribution. This is similiar to Adobe Acrobat Reader which provide portability of documents across all platform. Insn't it sounds good!!!

I thought of this idea when I was...

I thought of this idea form my experiences and my research done on variuos linux distribution and variuos problems coming because of diffrent packages and afcourse i got inspired from ADOBE ACrobat Reader for their PDF for document.

My question is what makes PLPKG better than say RPM or DEB? What would introducing another package format provide that standardizing around an existing one (say RPM) wouldn't? Not criticizing, just engaging discussion.

If you're thinking about making a commercial venture which allows you to install anywhere, see http://www.macrovision....llanywhere/index.shtml

Otherwise, how does this make money? :-)
