The Idea

A TV show based on the board game scrabble or lexitile, there are four contestants, one on each side of a large digital play board in the center of the floor that displays the game board, words and scores. Each player picks 7 letters, which the audience sees. The Player has thirty seconds to make a move, as an on screen computer starts counting down possible words and from lowest possible word score to the highest possible score by the end of thirty seconds. Game scores are kept in dollars not points, the person with the highest score wins that amount of money they have in points. Players can play along online by registering for a chance to win a laptop, drawn randomly at the end of each show. The Laptops are provided by the Computer Company that sponsors the show that week. The sponsoring Computer Company provides the master computer that calculates the possible words and scores on screen that week. This is the most popular game in the world, and could syndicate internationally.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Given the fuss they're making (trying to make?) over the facebook app Scrabulous, it might be a good plan to get the makers of Scrabble behind this one...

I swear there was a gameshow like this in the 80s...

Not a bad idea for a game show. The licensing and royalty fees would kill you though.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I don't think licencing and royalty fees would be a problem; check out a board game at Yahoo called Literati. http://games.yahoo.c...n2?page=lt&ss=1 It's exactly like Scrabble. So at the very least, it is possible to do, perhaps without licencing. I feel Lexitile.com would be as good a name - a mash of the words "Lexicon" and the playing "tiles". I think the problem with "Scrabulous" is that the name is an infringment on the name "Scrabble".

Why only a laptop as a prize? Do you expect only "geeks" to play?

"Scrabble.tv"
I sense a lawsuit from Hasbro coming your way.

Also, there was a television show called Scrabble in 1984 that was around for like six years. Contestants used clues to fill in words on a game board resembling the Scrabble game.

Thanks Kevin! Not knowing the name of that 80s game show was driving me bonkers!

Steve - Who among us, couldn't use a new state of the art laptop ? It doesn't have to be laptops but I thought it would go well with the idea of having different computer makers sponsor each episode as the provider of the master computer.

Kevin - The game show can operate as "lexitile.com" without Hasbro, or as "Scrabble.tv" with Hasbro. http://games.yahoo.c...n2?page=lt&ss=1

A good time slot would put this game show up against Jeopardy.

Daraddishman - the 80's show was entertaining, but intellectually light fare (with the hints and all). I think there's a very talented pool of "Lexitile" players and wordsmiths out there to draw contestants from.

But how will these mere humans do, when matched up against computer maker X' s latest technological offering ?

So Arges what you are saying is that you want a "version" of scrabble to be played on TV against each other with people registering to play along online for a chance to win a laptop? It would be like bringing the online version of scrabble to your TV set. Only it's not called scrabble. I think it would work but it has to be reality or else it won't sell as well look at the world of TV today. I have an idea that once and if you get this launched where it can be broadcasted. My idea is in line with the Reality part http://www.cambrianh...er/ideas-id/WJOwqgr/
and I did not offer that as a plug just a true observation and a thought of where it could go as well as TV

Thanks again for the comments.

threeg5 - the tv version would be played in real time, live with the online version, online players would assume one of the seats of the 4 tv contestants.

Kevin - Glad you like the domain names, I will eventually build something on them. I have over 800 domain names, I am building some, but most are in cash parking mode until I get to them.

Emesee - you are a man of too few words.
