The Idea

Create a personal tabletop letterpress system similar to die cut systems like Cricut where you purchase the main "machine" and add on plates are available for purchase. This would allow the average greeting card/stationery maker to produce the lovely look of letterpress without having to find an old letterpress and worry that the pieces are all there and where to get the parts.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I am in love with my business creating and selling stationery and wedding invitations and I would LOVE to have a letterpress but they are impossible to find and when you do, most won't ship because they are so heavy. They are heavy big and old machines that most likely will need a lot of work to maintain. I think a system like this would be the perfect addition to any scrapbooker/greeting card maker's arsenal of tools.

I'm rather curious about your idea. For one, I kind of know what a letterpress is, but only because I'm a former fine art/printmaking student. Given that you propose a physical device, could you please help everyone here - including myself - by adding some type of schematic/detailed description of your solution or even examples/URLs of existing solutions you're trying to emulate for home/personal use? Secondly, I also wish to understand if there is any significant difference - outside of cost or weight - between what you propose vs the present Cricut offering (I've watched their videos), cuz I'm not certain if your wish is to augment what it's capable of, or simply a direct competing solution.

cheers
