The Idea

First off, the thing that could differentiate this idea from others would be *content*. Think book-like content; reference material, the bible, how-to. This would be a social web application that charged members a monthly fee to network with like minds, access timely content, and use tools designed to empower small business in the Economy 2.0 (insert more buzzwords here...) :) Content could include: * Case studies * How-to's * Do's and Don'ts * Creative thinking exercises * Marketing/Branding information * Legal/Financial * Technology features * Bootstrapping guide * VC guide * User-generated content Tools might include: * VC-Link (bid on ideas/companies) * Partner Suggestor 3000 (autointroduce like-minded folks with similar ideas) * Buzz generator (subscribe to tags; when an idea comes across tagged as such, users are notified) * etc. This would not have to be limited to web/software start-ups. Content could be tailored for particular models, general in scope, or both.

I thought of this idea when I was...

networking on other social sites and found them extremely lacking in what I wanted.

I like it. It's social networking for entrepreneurs. Would attract the same crowd as CH, but a slightly different space. Voting up.

I like the idea, the only worry I have is the number of different types of business out there that the business would need to cater for. I do however think there is still a niche out there for websites that help start ups.

Instead of catering to different businesses, the model could allow for just IT, or just Biotech, or could have a strong tagging system for people to search and browse. That way, with good search and tagging, a business could make their own niche by collecting tags. Industry mavens and evangelists could be recruited to generate content for others in their industry, as part of the social networking and basis of the site - it should naturally draw those kinds of people in and provide and outlet for that type of personality. Connectors and Salesmen (and women) would also thrive there.
