The Idea

Plenty of people surf the net while they watch TV. This website would link together people watching the same TV show at the same time and let them chat about the show, play games and learn more about the show and characters. Contests, games and features would tie in with each show and would be carefully constructed so that they only take a minute or two to complete so that the user can go back to watching the TV show after the commercial break is over. An example for the TV show CSI Las Vegas. During the first commercial break, users are given a quiz about the first part of the show and a poll is taken that asks what users think will happen next, or who the guilty party is. During the second commerical break, a CSI-based flash-game becomes available that, when completed, unlocks trivia or cast bios for the show. Small prizes and points can be given for participation. The site can make money through targeted advertisements and would also be able to sell demographic data.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Getting really bored during commercials and also watching a really good TV show and wanting to learn more about it or the actors in it. I often watch TV with a laptop close to me and use wikipedia or google to look things up all the time or to play a quick game during commercial breaks.
