The Idea

It may sound strange or rude. Hell, it is. But think about this. You're in a relationship with someone, and you want to break up. But say you don't want to hurt their feelings, don't know how to do it, or just don't want to deal with it. You go online, pay one low fee, and fill in some information, like why, etc. And that's it. The designated person gets an email, letter (more expensive) that is written by a real person, and that is at the same time kind, nice and easy to deal with, or if you're feeling rude, make it harsh and quick.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I know it might be rude to break up with someone online, but one of my friends didn't want to deal with breaking up with her boyfriend, and she asked me to break up with him for her (yeah, I know!). She said she would give me five bucks. I didn't take the money, but she gave me an idea...

Grow a pair. Life isn't a video game and you shouldn't start relationships if you can't deal with people face to face. Lock yourself in your parent's basement and put foil over the windows.

Seems like you'd have an authentication problem. What keeps me from spoofing breakup notes to couples I find annoying?

I don't think I'd ever use this service. And I probably wouldn't think too much of anyone who did. But I can imagine people using it. Is market test-able. Um... would someone PAY for this? Or is this advertising based?

micco
micco Posted: January 22, 2008, 3:10 pm

Ad based? As in "Gordon wants to dump you. Drink Coke."

Or maybe "This dump brought to you by taco bell"

Lol. You have been dumped, drain your sorrows with Coca Cola.

I agree with PeeJayEl.

Before meeting: pair.com
Then, at break up time: growapair.com

natmaka, ROTFLOL!!!

before: pair.com
found!: appear.com
(en?) during: myotherpair.com
break up: growapair.com
after: apart.com

Plenty of sites, plenty of invoices... leading to the classic "I've got bag bills / They're such bag bills / And they're dirty bag bills ..."

(vanhees) If users had certain accounts then it would be authenticated.

However I believe you may need to integrate this service into something else. I.E. A relationship social networking site. A site for couples.

THen.... press here to break up.

I think it could be a cute application for facebook or something similar if you fleshed it out...

There used to be a company advertising on the airline mags that sold boxes of dead roses you could send to announce a break-up...They made a fortune...

You could get some witty poetry done up and all the smart-ass remarks by the nay-sayer above could actually work for you....Make it a workable spoof...

While I would not use the service, there is a niche and it is easy to do...

Micco~"This dump brought to you by taco bell"

Well maybe it would be an ad for a dating site.
"Looking for a new partner to share angry revenge sex with?"

culturefish~could be a cute application for facebook

Ooohh... yeah I don't know the extent of access you get to the social graph... but the action of de-friending someone on facebook could also play into this. I mean... the stats on how many times you've been dumped or de-friended could be quite compelling to yourself (and others).
