Cambrian House

Crowdsourcing represents the act of a company or institution taking a function once performed by employees and outsourcing it to an undefined (and generally large) network of people in the form of an open call.
Jeff Howe, Jun 2006

Cambrian House began as a crowdsourcing community using a wisdom of crowds based approach to discover new business and technology ideas. These pages are being kept online as a technology demo to showcase Chaordix™.

Looking to harness the power of your crowd? Find out about Chaordix™ - technology that enables enterprises to get the most out of crowdsourcing.

The Idea

Have a network of interested people in a money pool purchase inputs and utilize them to create seedbeds on a contract basis in a agroforestry setting. Some of the inputs which are expensive to buy are tractors and other capital equipment, fertilizers (fossil fuel based normally), land, and humus (animal sourced). Purchasing power can be obtained when large numbers of people cooperate. One piece of euipment which I am familiar with is an electronic seed germinator which was conceptualized, designed and built by Andrew Zaderj, an engineer who designed the Apollo moon rovers, under funding of Johnny Shannon (entrepreneur) and his company Agrigenics.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Johnny Shannon paid for me to fly to Oklahoma City, Ok, USA from Boulder, CO in 1984, when the famine in Ethiopia was beginning to unfold on the news media, to view the electronic seed germinator at his warehouse/office.
