Mistakes will be made. But if a person is essentially right, the mistakes he or she makes are not as serious in the long run as the mistakes management will make if it undertakes to tell those in authority exactly how they must do their jobs.

The Idea

AVOTARO is a way to bring a potential employee and a company together. Fictional, yet company related projects will be performed(ex- design a building using CAD) for a company via the internet. Projects will be graded by the employer and the AVOTARO staff. It will be duty of the staff at AVOTARO to study each company's portfolio and write up a project to be performed, therefore I need those that are innovative and have expertise in the jobs I listed in “idea keywords.” An A.E. may have employers bid on their work. AVOTARO's compensation will depend on the type of project, the % of the winning bid price, and when an A.E. becomes a real employee. The following is what an A.E. will receive: 1) Their own 3D virtual office and avatar. 2) Password that prevents the stealing of their ideas. 3) All the software necessary to complete a project. 4) Evaluations, comments, suggestions, and expert advice on their performance. 5) Promotional Area, including videos and a web site.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I thought of this idea when I was thinking about how hard it can be for your resume to stand out. There are 3D worlds and I thought wouldn't be great if you could use a 3d world to show potential employers what a person is truly capable of performing. The saying "Actions speak louder than words" is so true. How can you truly demonstrate your talents on paper? There are those that freeze up during an interview which can decrease their chance of landing a job where they are the "perfect fit." I know there are web sites where job seekers can submit their work to potential employers. However, my idea is to have each AVOTORO employee be given individual projects to perform and to receive feedback. This should be a learning experience, because of the evaluations, comments, suggestions, and expert advice they will receive from those expert in the field of their dreams

There are a few of such services online that have this type of bid for the job kind of systems.

Thanks for the reading about "my idea", and taking the time to leave a
comment. I have seen one site that allows people to bid on work. I want my idea to be more than that. Therefore, my idea isn't just creating a bidding system, but to have potential employees prove their individual creativity. Maybe I need to revise my idea.

Somehow it seams to be too difficult

Yes, it would difficult for me to do. Therefore, I'm curious to know if there are any CambrianHouse members who know if my envision is possible. I want to bring brillant minds together. Technology has progressed so much. Maybe a potential employee could be given an assignment and someone could film them while they are completing the assignment. The company could see first hand how they work. However, isn't that already done on YouTube?

You mean like http://www.odesk.com ?? I know on there they even have exams of the potential employees to take that would have an impromptu certification in whatever area.

Eww film them while they work, that seems a bit Orwellian don't you think?

I went to http://www.odesk.com and was impressed. Maybe I should edit "my idea" a bit, since it isn't all of my own. AVOTARO would provide potential employees all the software to show a company that they may be the right fit. For instance, odesk has this job listing, "product designed in autocad." AVOTARO will provide autocad. The job seeker would then be able to demonstrate an example of their work on their computer.

Ok, omit the filming part.

Would the hiring company pay a fee to cover the expense of having the skill testing software online/available, plus other expenses and profit? If it did, I could see this as a useful service for the small business market.

thats no small task what kind of skills do you have to make this happen?

Brenden
Brenden Posted: May 15, 2008, 12:56 pm

have you ever considered scaling it down?

headofideas Posted: May 15, 2008, 1:54 pm

For stevesitv- Yes, the hiring company will pay a fee. Brenden, to be honest with you, the only skills I have are office skills. I want to find professionals who have the expertise in bringing AVOTARO to life. Scaling it down is a valid consideration.

I stated that AVOTARO would supply any software needed to complete a project. The software companies can pay us a % of their cost, if someone purchases their product through the AVOTARO site, since we are advertising their company.

I think you can approach it in a way as an outsourcing network rather than a virtual office.
I mean, many companies work by having employees in an office somewhere working for them.
What I think is "wrong" with this is that employees loose tons of time and money travelling to the offices than actually working and sometimes only half of the employees are working while the work they perform can be done at home.

The idea of outsourcing would be kind of beneficial since you only contact the people you need to, they work at home efficiently, the companies save a lot of money this way and they are not limited to employees living in the same town since they can even live in another country.

So you can build an exposure network where everyone looking for job would state their skills, portfolio or resume, including an active or inactive function (so employers know which candidates are available to work at the moment) and a ranking for each candidate (something like ebay)
Also when a candidate receives a job it goes to inactive mode until both sides (employer and employee) accept the satisfactory end of a project and only at that time that candidate is available to receive a new job.

Don’t know if this could be helpful to your idea.

Yes, that was very helpful!

Maybe I should change the name to FOTARO- which stands for From Outsourcing to a Real Office. Let me emphasize that I just don't want my site to list job seeker's skills, resumes, and/or portfolios, and hope that companies found our site. I want to help the job candidates by submitting their credentials to companies and each candidate will have their own
personal job coach.
With the high price of gas and the economy, some companies will need to have their employees work at home.
