The Elevator Pitch

For Cambrian House Users who want to comunicate with their businesses better the Cambrian House Conferencing is a Feature/ Downloadable program that strengthens the connections between members of a business and creates a more effient way of communication. Unlike E/mail, CH messaging, the chat room or even phone calls our product allows for users to get things done faster on CambrianHouse.com by faster communication.

The Idea

CH users should have a way to conference amongst themselves in a more personal way. Since we can have any conventions or meetings because we'd see how ugly we all truly are, a VoIP and video conferencing system could be designed to allow users that are part of a businesses to connect.

Users could schedule times for conferences and there could be a white board for use during the conferences.

I think this would really help the creative process and also help businesses that are really trying to get stuff done, but distance and communication are problems for them.

I thought of this idea when I was...

looking at http://www.oovoo.com

also wondering how in the world (if I made a good business) I would be able to communicate with the members in my business in a practical way that would allow us to get things done.

Your idea wold be very useful.
The only problem I see is that not too many CH people use the chat section we have now, so I'm not sure how much demand your product has in the CH community. Perhaps you could expand your conferencing idea to incorporate other communities as well?

Ignoring the different time zones: your idea is good.
Like it.

Now I think this IS a good idea...(quelle surprise...!)

If you wanted to use ooVoo for something like this, there is a function where you can set up groups for easy contact and you can use the text chat facility at the same time as the video app if you wanted to swap notes.

I know it's probably not as exclusive or tailor-made as you're envisioning but it might work for now - and I'd love to hear how you got on (good and bad) if you use it. I do use it in a business context with my colleagues and not just because they tell me to!

oovooworld.com is my blog that collects all the reviews and comparisons around ooVoo so it might be a useful base from which to see what could suit you.

Cheers, Molly

Not directly, I work as an independent writer for the ooVooworld blog which they sponsor

Patrick_Jones Posted: June 27, 2007, 5:11 pm

ooh well thats pretty cool

The video conferencing should be inside the console I'm trying to get made. But I think mabye a stripped down oovoo would work well in there

um, PJ, are you saying that the facility you long for now exists?

Fitzpatrick
Fitzpatrick Posted: June 27, 2007, 8:22 pm

I 2nd Jill's question. Are you throwing in the towel or just acknowledging a competitor? If the later, please tell us a few ways your product would be better?

Patrick_Jones Posted: June 27, 2007, 8:29 pm

it all prospective

don't jump on my ass

What i was saying is "I long for" the two (or 3) ideas to be combined. I like both mine and moogy's idea and were starting to collaborate on a new idea. A smaller version of mine and a larger version of his. And the video would tie in great with both of them.

Yep, like it, it needs to be integrated fully at least into the businesses section.

ChrisJ
ChrisJ Posted: June 29, 2007, 1:00 pm

I agree this would be a nice feature especially for collaborating on businesses. One neat feature is if you could have a "conference now" button on the icon. Maybe ooVoo could be integrated into the CH site similar to the way that YouTube is.

PS - thanks for introducing me to ooVoo - very cool.

Yah, this would be a nice feature to have added to the wonders we all call CH...

Maybe you could incorporate some of the tools from Zoho. Zoho Meeting (their conferencing tool) is free right now, but it looks like they plan to start charging for it.

I don't know why Oovoo doesn't support macs.

I'll look into it for you buddy, or mabye Oovooworld can help you with that one

GordonMcDowell
GordonMcDowell Posted: July 3, 2007, 9:03 am

There's lots of external collaboration tools available, and certainly CH can't specifically incorporate them all. Videoconferencing, whiteboards... does anyone have a suggestions WHERE and HOW external tools could be easily incorporated into CH layout? For example, a business Wiki (so any active business) will take a link to anywhere... but I don't think the Wiki pages typically see a lot of traffic... people don't generally head straight to a biz wiki page when they're checking it out. CH could standardize on one service provider's collaboration service (as we currently use Campfire for general chat) BUT... I don't think CH hard-coding in a particular solution is wise. Maybe we'd be better off allowing some more flexible html embeds on a biz default landing page?

jill Posted: July 3, 2007, 10:35 am

Hey, I went away for Canada Day, came back and found out I'd spent the weekend virtually jumping on some part of Patrick_Jones with Fitzpatrick! Wow, who knew ;-)

Anyway, what I would find useful is one-stop shopping for links to external tools. I would want one-line descriptions, perhaps organized into categories, with clickable links to the various things.

Patrick_Jones, this could be a product, a pretty simple and useful one - a guide to collaboration tools.

dukenstein
dukenstein Posted: July 3, 2007, 11:53 am

PJ ... it looks like some potential synergies with crowdsource conference (dew2501) and crowdsource idea development tools (dukenstein.)

As Gordon has mentioned "hardcoding into CH may not be viable" but Jill's idea of having a link repository with short descriptions of useful collaboration apps could be the ticket we all need.

Let us combine our skills and minds to create a merged idea for voting next round and then Get Er Done!

As much as I hate that phrase "get er done", I think doing a collab would be great.

Launch some dimdim meetings on http://www.dimdim.com is OpenSource as well. Pick a day and time and launch it, see if people will come by.

Ask a link on the site over here or maybe a calender on this site to add events would help as well.
