The Idea

Kind of a dark topic but relevant to everyone at some point in time. Tools and hosting allowing users to create an online tribute to a family member or friend who has passed away. Collect together photos, memories, tributes, family history, all sorts of stuff. Website is archived. Links with publishers to help create hard-copy versions. Bring immortality a little closer to those we have loved. Could form part of a larger project to develop a historical record. Revenue 1) hosting of immortalized website 2) print and commemorative services (e.g., print off a photo collage of person) 3) one-off fee for storing profile in an immortalized 'vault' for very long-term storage

I thought of this idea when I was...

was reflecting on death

Interesting idea, where is the money in it?

Hi Kshex - i appreciate you taking the time to comment on my ideas. It helps me think about them more.

Immortalized creates two potential products that can be sold
1) immortalized website for the decreased person - revenue is small yearly fee to host that site
2) hard-copy print version - companies are already printing from blogs and photos. Wouldnt be hard to get them involved and take a small fee off the top.

Sounds kinda neat. It seems as if it could be part of an online portion to family tree maker. It would allow for submissions to a loved ones profile and an admin or moderator would make the accepted changes withen the family tree maker and upload it to the site. Then allowing for downloadable hard copies or even an ordering of a album of sorts from family tree maker.

I think there are some sites that 'kinda sorta' fill the need for a memorial... There are Internet time capsules, for instance, that could be used like this... timenetsule.com is a popular one.

This is intersting

I don't to many providers that would host for free with out adds.

Where would the money come from, or where would it go?

I don't see this as being viable.

It's a good idea that needs work.

Morbid, but wonderful. An online graveyard. Chat commemoration services.

Provide the graveyard for free, digital slots so small are cheap this days. You can make money solely by selling wonderful digital commemorative patterns to "place" on one's digital grave, instead of flowers, if anybody wants to buy them, of course. And they would, because yours would be convenient to get and plantyful.

Hey Moogy - people pay for the service, like they pay for any other kind of memorial service, although I imagine they can create a much more elaborate (and cheaper) online or print memorial with this service. That is where the money comes from. This is not the kind of project that has advertising on it!!

Sounds cool. If the guys I see who have tatoos that read "in memory of XYZ" would buy a page on the site then there should be a market already.

I thought this was a cool idea. In fact, I thought that you could extend it to live people. I would love to do something like this for my grandfather.

However, as I thought about it more I wondered how this was much different than a blog.

What do you think? If it does work then I guess my idea of creating a video out of pictures and music(http://www.cambrianhouse.com/idea-warz/idea-promoter/ideas-id/ksIeWW6/) would be a great addition to this memorial website.

I still like the idea.

But I don't see how the revenue can support it.
It's a one time fee to be cremated and put in an alcove.

The problem with the net is the one time fee.

Let's say I pay to put my dad on the web for 20 years. After I die is my family going to continue paying for my dad... and so on for me.

At one point I someone would stop paying... no?
