Ultima 2 style Java RPG game for cellphone play. Tactical advantage over your opponents by being physically located in your city which corresponds to the virtual location of your avatar in game city. While many aspects of an RPG can be insanely-deep, I'd be looking to implement as simple a game as possible, to see if and how people interact when battling (or cooperating) players encounter each other in the real world. The GPS data which will factor so heavily into gameplay would be used to drive in-game advertising, promoting near by services. Don't think any part of this is specifically difficult to implement. RPGs have been done to death. Trick is location based ad-placement doesn't scale. The game knows where players are, has POTENTIAL to offer very valuable advertising... but how to bring small advertising clients in? Looking for help on that question.
Years ago reading Wired article about location based gaming, and how people woudl drive or fly to correct location to launch a GPS based attack on their opponents. I wondered how cooperation might facilitate human to human contact. Location based advertising is just obvious once you have GPS data.
I'm looking for High profit margin I don't see it here.
Agreed, such an endevour would require a lot of development, and would be difficult to market test. Games like this tend to be viral if they are at all successful.
But if anyone DOES know of a mechanism for finding the appropraite location based ads, please lemmie know, as without that this idea is impossible and I can forget it.

I agree that location-based ads would be interesting. They should offer a discount to be useful. I might not mind getting texted: "Hey there, Lizzard, it's a hot day, why not come into Mel's Deli for a half-price lemonade. It's 1 block north of you on 5th street." Localized ads would have to be categorized and maybe opt-in by category.
People keep talking about this idea in conjunction with services like Dodgeball...
Deckard posted a similar idea before I did. Doh.
