The Elevator Pitch

For Montessori teachers who are independently re-creating documents the Montessori Utility Site is a resource that allows Montessori teachers to compile useful templates. Unlike Word templates our product specifically targets Montessori teachers.

The Idea

Various utilities to help meet needs of Montessori classrooms.
- Track which students have completed which courses.
- Order materials from cheapest supplier.
- Montessori report card creation tool set.
All of these apps would be relatively simple to create, and be web based. Encrypted web pages would be required for any student data.
I would recommend charging $50/school to keep cusomisations from being wiped after 6 months, and $50 would grant 1 year of use for entire school. Not sure that would be enough revenue to make a decent profit, I expect advertising to help support the site, or (when faciliating ordering materials from cheapest supplier) collecting a service fee.
Note: Montessori is not trademarked, the term is in the public domain.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Helping my wife create documents (Excel, Word) for Montessori class, wondering why the tools weren't already available free somewhere.

Like it.

If you could have a module to give parents a window on their child's progress, that would be good too (and would be an additional revenue source).

Maria Montessori would definitely be in favour. Of course, she would expect orderly, organized, perfectly documented, creative code ;-)

Don't worry about pricing points yet.

Love the idea of targeting a very specific niche. Could start with Montessori and then expand out to K-12 lesson plans. I spent some time as a middle-school teacher and would have loved to have an online resource like this myself!

doesn't Montessori own copyrights on such materials? Or is that the Scientologists, I forget.

Online classes and software have all ready been made by multiple companies.
Example:
http://www.blackboard.com
http://www.ocw.mit.edu

Also, templates for worksheets can be easily made by using the template function in (Excel, Word).

TheGugu, "Montessori" is in public domain, which is why there's a lot of not-so-good stuff branded with it.

Gods_Light, its just a place to consolidate utilities useful for Montessori schools and classrooms. Some of it would be very similar to general classroom utilities (so is just target marketing), the rest is customized utilities. Could be any mix of open source tools or closed source apps.

Helping my spouse set up templates for class showed me if such tools are available, they are not easy to find, or referenced in one location.
