The Idea

Make your own sandwiches and lunch combinations on-line, and get them delivered fresh to your door. In conjunction with a partner Sandwich deli, say subway or Pret-a-manger or a conglomerate of all of these sandwich partners, create a sandwich portal that allows you to create your sandwiches on-line, find an outlet that will build your sandwich for you in your area, and then get them delivered to you. Add your side orders and drinks to it too. You could have drag and drop sandwich creation, taste comparisons and even "sandwich of the week". Use local taxi services to deliver food to the user. This idea could be expanded to pizzas, indian/chinese takeaways and even MacDonalds.

I thought of this idea when I was...

at lunch talking about the fact we cannot order a descent sandwich on-line, although you can ring and get one delivered no problem.

The same thing has been said for pizza. I've wanted to do it, but for some reason people haven't been able to make it work. I think it's because people still feel more comfortable ordering pizza on the phone.

canchita,

Thanks for the feedback. With the correct advertising we could try to persuade the everyday worker that this was the way he needs to order his lunch. Imagine just being able to build your lunch 30 minutes before it arrived for you, at work, without ever having to leave your seat..

Pizzas and takeaways might be more of a challenge as those things are usually spur of the moment things and require you to log on to a computer which is a hassle. Perhaps sending some sort of structured sms message to the service could be a way around it?

Just a thought.

I dont know - I am still a fan for encouraging more people to get off their fat arses and walking to get a sandwich. that being said, I am not totally against the concept of pre-ordering lunches for regular delivery - perhaps if this worked for offices rather than individuals.

An office puts in a request for regular items which are delivered from their local deli/supermarket. The program can distinguish between different people in the office and work out how much each person has to pay into the common slush fund.

At an individual level, i think this is a bit silly. At an office/ company level, I think this could work quite well.
