The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.

The Idea

Instant Answers from experts. This is a desktop question-answer engine. You type any question you have into the desktop bar and that question is instantly streamed to the relevant experts desktops in the style of a stock ticker. No question categoratizion is needed by the asker of the question, you just ask a question and hit enter. The question classification is done by a semantic engine that understands the main words in your question and classifies your question accordingly. Experts are classified according to the areas of expertise that they provide and they receive questions based on the categorization of questions provided by the semantic answer engine. I imagine this desktop app being always on, with a question bar for asking questions yourself and a separate area where questions to answer are streamed in real time.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Another idea I have in a separate idea submission instigated this one. Plus I see a few others with similar enough ideas that I realized I needed to publish this. Semantic recognition and categorization can be done with open source Link Grammar Parser such as http://www.link.cs.cmu.edu and Wordnet http://wordnet.princeton.edu/. You also need to decide on a classification scheme such as perhaps the Dewey decimal system. See: http://liinwww.ira.u....categorization.html for more.

Long ago... at the beginning of the internet... I used to use a site called www.AskJeeves.com. It is almost exactly to what you are describing.

The site is no longer available, but the idea is still cool.

siliconglen,
It is true, that http://www.cambrianh...ter/ideas-id/M47DAOJ is a similar idea, though there are key differences. However, similarites aside, I've had the idea presented here for about a year and a half, from before yahoo launched their answers community. As a matter of fact seeing your idea as well as seeing the recent launch of yedda: http://www.techcrunc...rtup-yedda-launches/ on the SAME day really took the wind out of my sails regarding the idea. So, I figured, why shouldn't I post it now. Oh well, you would probably be lying if you said that you never saw someone else implement your idea before you had a chance to implement your idea. However, that being said, independent discovery does show that the idea is a good one perhaps.

I will post an idea that goes in tandem with this idea shortly that will be titled something like "Mainline".
