The Idea

Site like upcoming.org and going.com are very popular. But after take to much time to sort though all of the events and you never really know if that event is going to be really good or not. So why not build community around event calendars and events and let people give feedback on events. But more importantly Social Calendar lets you put in your key words for events you like and then it will always keep your calendar up to date with fresh things to do.

So if your in Boston and you like Hip-hop, meetups, and wine tasting, you would enter these terms into your smart calendar and it will populate it with events in your area. You can then select the events you want to attend, push reminders to your mobile phone, facebook, or e-mail and always know what's hot and happening at any moment.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I was playing around with upcoming.org and though of how it could be so much better

Hi Streetforce one.
I think almost every city has a site with what's going on. I don't dislike your idea, but the questions is how are you going to get people to give you the data that you need for your site to be succesfull?

I'd agree that the implementations I've seen could be improved on, but how do you get the ball rolling? No matter the city, you'll have competitors in both multi-city companies, and sites built by people living in particular cities.

how can you make money out of this?

I think money can be made from the travel industry. Imagine being able to offer clients a real time schedule of events to suit their taste in all of the places they are traveling. I arrive at the hotel and have to read the local pamphlets from the lobby only to find out I am too late to attend.
Good idea, but needs some more reality to flesh it out.

I think you'd also find facebook events as a pretty hard competitor in this area too.

It's an interesting idea you would need some sort of implementation that looked at some Natural Language Processing or at least similar words matching. For example, a person might indicate they like Music events, but if a Hip-hop event was taking place they may not be indicated because of the differing titles/keywords/tags used.

You may not need to get that advanced, but it would really create the difference.
