The Idea

The concept of this is site is to be the largest online network/marketplace for bloggers/designers/coders who focus on wordpress(possible expansion into other CMS's)

Bloggers - Can find unique designs for sale in the marketplace. They can also find custom work by posting a job op. on the board. We will also feature free themes bloggers can have customized by a designer.

Designers - Can post unique designs for sale in our marketplace. We will handle the backend of promotions and sales of themes in exchange for a small percentage (10%-15%) Designers can bid on the job board for design contracts. They will be ranked and rated by members based on number of sales, quality of work and speed/efficiency. Members can display their portfolio of past work, rates and availability.

Coders - With the growing demand for quality coders, we must devellop a system to ensure only qualified coders join. A sample psd to code perhaps?
They will have the ability to buy psd files directly from designers, code and sell in marketplace. Offer services to overbooked designers. They can also bid on jobs for bloggers looking to manage their own project to save money. (designers who also code have higher rates)

Designers and coders will have the ability to create a 'firm' within the site and may work together to generate more revenue.

I thought of this idea when I was...

Is already open source: why would people pay for extra's?

I would have to agree with vanhees. What I'm not quite understanding is if this concept is to design/blog/code for Wordpress or if these individuals use Wordpress to communication/network?

There are a lot of free and open source sites available on the net that provide skins and themes and many people already volunteer their time for custom designs and codes without compensation in return for branding and generating freelance (commision based) interests.

If this was a, say, digital creative talents site then maybe you would have something viable.

i would say this is more of a gathering place for creative talents to collaborate on projects such as designing themes for CMS, wordpress etc.

similar to how cambrianhouse is a crowdsourcing site, this site is "crowdsourcing" for creative talents to work together on larger projects...

It would be great for us here in the PRC....Wordpress.com is blocked as are most free services...Independently hosted we could get to it and participate...

Is there a way to monetize the site without selling the add ons?
