The Idea

Find music that fits your mood through crowd-sourced social networking apps.
The mood music app takes note of the music you and your friends listen to based on Facebook and MySpace mood settings. Then when you're in that mood again, it can play songs already in your playlist to fit your mood or offer you suggestions based on your mood settings.
The songs can be pulled from iTunes, Pandora, or any other net-based music provider.
You can also manually input songs you like to hear on certain occasions.
Revenue can be earned through advertising, affiliate sales, and sales of new songs.

I thought of this idea when I was...

I woke up this morning and wanted to hear the theme from Rocky.

So, its kind of like TIVO for music? Except it's a Facebook plug-in, hoo haa. I think this idea has some merit and it could work.

Unfortunately, many of the sites like Pandora have been shutdown or heavily restricted because of the RIAA in the US. If you could get around the issues with the RIAA then you might be on to something. It may have to be a pay per use scenario, again because of the RIAA. Then of course there's the issues with the RIAA.

I think that's pretty close, but I'm not sure we even need to handle digital rights and the RIAA. We can just offer recommendations based on mood settings. The user can deal with that stuff.
But, maybe I'm not thinking big enough.

Just an add-on: I look at us more as a compliment to Pandora or iTunes.

I would never use this kind of thing but there might be a crowd for it.

Sounds like a good function to also add to programs like Last.FM

can't see this as a standalone, but how to market to disparate services online

I think he wants the program to just work with other applications for the music.

Yeah, I don't see this as a standalone, but as an application that you could add to your social networks that offer mood settings... and, of course, the necessary API to connect to those social networks.

tlyden, those don't appear to be "mood based", but I think they're close enough that adding mood filters wouldn't take then much effort. I think its too late to enter the market with this idea.

Maybe so.
Also this app can fold various undergarments.

"I think its too late to enter the market with this idea."
I don't know about that it seems simple enough to make.

Sometimes I want to wake up to the theme of rocky too :)

Animals use scent and sounds when they experience certain moods and urges. Why not humans?

I had a similar suggestion to Magickaito in his "I was here!" idea, so I think the whole concept should be exploited, particularly in apps like Facebook or even ringtones on your phone.

You don't need to tell someone "leave me alone" or "Baby, I'm ready." lol
