Want a famous or sexy personalised answering machine message for your home, mobile or Skype account? Worried about security? Simply enter the text required, and stipulate what your want e.g. "Sean Connery impersonation" "George W Bush" "Billy Connolly", "Arnold Schwarzenegger" "Darth Vader" or "sexy Scottish accent" and people interested in the work submit their solutions and quote a price. You can hear samples and when happy, you buy the solution you like and download a high quality sample for use as you please. More mundane use is for security reasons when single women might prefer a male voice on their answering machine for security reasons. I'm also working on a doorbell which plays MP3 greetings and these could also be used here. The possibilities are endless, and the world is not enough Mr Bond.
Realising that with Skype, there's a lot of personalised voice based applications that could be built. Also realing there's a lot of voice based work for voiceovers, talking books, podcasts etc for which finding a suitable voice could be made easier.
I'm sure this has been done, but with all the buzz -- and money being made -- about "ringtones" (another business model I, for the life of me, do not understand), it might actually work.
Plenty of providers in the IVR world (and voice overs etc..) - just need 2 get those guys down into the Web 2.0 (and mobile "ringtone") space :)
simple, easy, and with the potential to be a little istockphoto, I like it, I really like it.
think far beyond the phone.
not a bad idea.
You get the speech database started off by people placing requests... then as more and more submissions are added (and ranked), the quality builds up and maybe people would start using already created samples rather than paying to have custom ones created.
I have a hard time imagining myself or anyone i know putting out a request for a custom speech... its just way easier to force a friend who's voice doesn't suck to record on your answering machine. Compared to the request/fulfillment/listen/reject/fulfillment/listen/accept/pay cycle of effort. But uh... I'm not the target market for Micheal Bay movies either, and they seem to make money.
cool!
my prediction: this will happen SOON.
something like a mobile ring tune? customizing is being done btw.
ouch...i mis post the last one...my apology!
NICE
I want the voice a lady with a french accent...
Tommy

hmmmm...after careful evaluation..i dread that there will be major problems if this will hit the commercial trade specially if use as ID.
There has been a substantial increase in instances of identity fraud or the "hijacking" of someone's identity information. This can include the utilization of other person's credit card or social security numbers to steal money or commit fraud.
I believe, malicious activities more than a cute exception to thwart the bad guys would likely proliferate (home alone movies parody).
Lastly,I dunno if voice can be patented..but yup this is been done as MP3 or ringtune/callback for mobile phone.
sounds nice....well, create a SWOT analysis of your idea/product which includes the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. In this way, you will be able to gauge your idea and somehow create ways to somehow develop your idea more despite the presence of threats.
hmmm...why do the two guys up (saigon&joyce) sounds like "He said, She said" syndicate opinion article =)
Anyway I like this idea!
Text-to-speech and speech synthesis services are definitely up and coming; you're on the right track. Have you explored what already exists for this type of thing?
An active AT&T demo on a similar vein:

Celebrity impersonation might not be the best (for legal reasons), although a similar concept exists, mostly used for prank calls and other silliness. Type in "celebrity soundboards" in Google, or check out these pages:

this sounds good! but i wont take it really!..
Imagine the voice of Austin Powers: "Groovy baby!"
Wow, I really enjoy this idea. Kind of like hiring a voice actor; just small scale.
Why is this idea up for voting again? This idea has all ready BEEN DONE ONLINE BY MANY!!!
calm down Kevin_Cox=) let the community decide.
I do not see the market for this or the competitive advantage to make it fly.
Aside from the VoIP phenomenon, many more games are starting to include voice capabilities thanks to the widening of bandwidth. A more modern take on voice banks could benefit Second Life, World of Warcraft, and many other avenues yet to be explored.
The one thing I foresee being a problem is the sample idea. Voicemails are usually relatively short. How do you make sure people get the right idea of the work presented without being able to nick it?
I do think this could work, as pointed out by others people love having something a bit different on their phones etc...
Another thing it to guarantee the quality of work. Obviously people can choose to use or not use what is delivered, but to keep people happy they need to be provided with options relatively soon. How would you guarantee that?
Voices.com does a very similar thing with lots of professionals offering their services. It all can get quite pricey, so it would be nice to see some competition offering more reasonable rates.
OK then, so how do we take this forward?
