The Idea

dmoz works but lacks enough editors. Digg works but is only for single pages. Alexa works but has a limited rating system and is mostly for traffic. del.icio.us works but the UI is woeful. Idea is simply to allow people to sumbit the root URL of a site or blog that they like and for other people to vote on the site Sites would show numbers of votes for "great" or "good" and an average score, like the amazon rating system. There would be two sortable scores: Total votes and average vote (defualt) Sites would be organised into a hierarchy like dmoz so that you could drill down and see the top rated sites at any level. Site would carry google adsense with the site taking a cut and the owner of the sumbission taking a cut as well. They would be verified as the site owner by having to create a special file in their site root. The site would make money by selling the stats onto google to influence search results (i.e. find recommended sites like this one).

I thought of this idea when I was...

Bored of using Google to find a decent page, then stuggling to find quality sites with similar content. Google ranks by relevancy, not whether the site is actually any good or not!

Sounds like Stumpleupon.com and its firefox extension. Maybe you could expand on their idea though.
