Crowdsourcing represents the act of a company or institution taking a function once performed by employees and outsourcing it to an undefined (and generally large) network of people in the form of an open call.

The Elevator Pitch

For Teenagers to adults who like Comics or volunteering or both the Be a Real Super Hero is a Chance to both be acknowladge and rewarded for doing good deeds and volunteering that gives you both the satisfaction, enable you to meet people like you and to have some fun and get free stuff for volunteering. Unlike other volunteering sites who you go only if you want to find somewhere to volunteer for our product will encourage the user to volunteer while giving him something in return..

The Idea

Be a real Super Hero gives people from around the world the opportunity to be real Super Heroes. Not just on the web-site but also in the real world, by volunteering and helping people, communities and organizations in need. The site idea is based on today's web 2.0 sites (community sites), and will actually contain two sites: 1. So you want to be a Real Super Hero?- Where a user can register and become a quotReal Super Heroquot. 2. Need to call a Real Super Hero?- Where verified organizations who need volunteers can ask for them. After the first time a user is doing some kind of volunteering work, he is granted a special Comic or Manga Character, his own hero. After each volunteering work the user will gain points which he will be able to use in order to acquire special super powers, order Comic pages about him, and purchase other on-line benefits. The site will sell commercials and also merchandise to the users as well as parts of the site (like special arcade).

I thought of this idea when I was...

Well, noticing how comic affects the life in the US, and thinking about how it might encourage people to do good deeds I think it might be a good Idea.

This is similar to an idea I suggested for the crowd-sourced book. I suggested that people describe their alter ego (i.e., the person they are during the day) and their superhero self (the one that fights crime etc). This captures that idea in a website version.

An aspect of what you describe is generating a potential revenue source for creative designers and artists and budding comic book artists. For example, I write the story aspect (e.g., describe my superhero self) and pay an artist to give this visual life.

Your idea for missions is cool also. This could promote a whole lot of good deeds as you suggest. It may even spawn some excellent underground comic books. I reckon you should elaborate on some of the missions that members might be able to participate in.

There is potential here for a myspace-like social community. Once you have developed your superhero profile, you can team with other superheros to fight battles/missions as a group (e.g., fantastic 5).

This also has some potentially lucrative merchandizing opportunities, the same way that mojizu lets the artists create merchandise from their characters.

I reckon you should expand on your idea. Given that there are over 3000 ideas on here now, you really need to make it clear a) what the revenue stream is and b) expand on some of your concepts (missions, tournaments etc).

With regards to revenue - off the top of my head:
1) merchandise
2) advertising for existing comic books
3) original comics and books (this would make a neat series of books)
4) graphic design and artistic services.

Thanks PsychSplash, Well you are right, I just couldn't fit everything I had for this Idea in the Idea frame, I would like to point out that you are correct about the revenue possibilities, but I will start again by describing the system.
It will be a community of people, normal people like you and I, who want a little test of adventure, and that's excatly what the site will supply.
Basically let's say I decide to sign up for the site and to make myself a super hero, I give it the name: "Super baby" and the abilities to scream hard (making my opponent temporarilty deaf). That's to start with, so I send my pic and get back the super hero "super baby" which of couse look like me.
Now I have my page with my profile, my secret Identity is not open to people Unless I decide that they are worthy of that, of course my super hero is proudly there on my page :).
So now what I have entered all the neccessary details including my zip code, and the system check to see if there is any action going on around my area. That means let say hospital children in need, or anything of that sorts. Then I get an email in the site stating something like:
"this is your mission if you decide to accept it.... " and describing the mission. The orginization that has allied with the site (I believe most of the places will gladly do that because the only thing they are required to do in return is report back to the site about the activities). Well I finish my mission and the let's say hostpital sends the site owners the details of my mission.
Now the site generates a comic sheet of my heroic deeds (in a more heroic way of course), and I also gain points !!
With these points I can eventually buy my own comic book which is all about me...
Now, besides all that there are the site villians, nasty group of people, and they are sometimes stopping me from finishing my mission, they kidnap (virtually and on the site of course) my loved ones and I have to fight them using my powers in order to save them.
I can also buy more powers with the points and become a stronger super hero, and of course super heroes can unite and make the world a better place.
Yes, in a strange way it does ressambles myspace, but a comic one, where people can do go in order to gain powers and heroism points.
There will also be mechandise that I won't be able to buy with points, like a t-shirt with my figure on it and all sort of other things which I can buy.
I believe that we can of course advertise existing comic books, and I won't be surprised if this idea get snatched by the other comic book companies so we should do this quickly...

City of heroes is a game you have to buy and then you are not becoming your own hero, but you represented a hero...

And it's nothing like what I'm proposing...
A) it's not online.
B) you have to play a game but don't have to do nothing besides.
c) No online community like I suggested...

Awsome, I think it has some similarities to city of heroes but slightly different. If you got leagues and certain real superheroes that you have to impress to be part of the league then I think that the game would be awsome. Will there be a charge for membership?? And will certain things for your hero need to be bought (like habbohotel.com)??

Well, it won't cost a thing to join the site and have yourself as a superhero, but there will be merchandize you can buy like I said, which I believe people would like, like clothes with their SuperHero character on them, or comic books of course.

not being an avid gamer or comic reader the thing that interests me is the possible revenue stream . To generate revenue you need lots of people competing i would target physical comunities (such as university campusus) that can compete with each other in thier good deeds hopefully generating good publicity and growing the site

It may be something that could be used by charities and fund raising campaigns. E.g. United Way, blood donor drives, food bank drives, etc.

The sponsoring agency would pay a license fee (flat fee or pay per use, whatever) and the software would administer their event.

I have seen people waste a lot of time setting up Excel spreadsheets to track this sort of thing.

Maybe this could be bundled with some volunteer management software as well, as a kind of cool extra feature. Revenue there would come from the maker of the primary product.
