If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astonish ourselves.

The Idea

With the success of comic book movies and the popularity of web comics and independent comics the popularity of comic is on an upswing. You might be a writer or artist who thinks they can make it in the comic world but just don't have the other team members to create your own comic. At the Comics R Us you can sign up as a writer, penciler, colorist, letterer or inker and search through the other members of the community to find the other members of your team. Together you create your own comic and will be able to send your work to each other through the site. Once an issue of your comic has been created you can either choose to post it on the site as a web comic or sell it as a comic via the website (with possibly the ability to preview the first couple of pages on the website so the readers know what they're in for). Comics R Us would make it's money from selling comics, possibly advertising from other comic companies and if need be membership fees.

I thought of this idea when I was...

One of my friends and I have been writing for years. Over the years we've written many comic book scripts. We've submitted our scripts and have gotten some pretty good responses but ultimately told "It's not what we're looking for right now." We have tried finding an artist to write the comic for us but have not been able to and aren't sure if we could publish it ourselves. So I thought it would be a good idea to have a place where artists and writers can find people to create their comics with.

it sounds like a good idea and you might want to check out (for example) warren ellis' forum here: http://www.the-engine.net/forum/
to see if others are sketching out something similar and see what they've planned (the forum actually act as somewhat of a bulletin board for cartoonists and others of that trade)

Two more similar sites:

In Canada.

Ronin has already implemented some of your ideas. The other two is about making connections.

GGG.

Having similar sites is a good thing, it proves the model and gives you a chance to differentiate and blow them out of the water.
