Hello everyone.

Like it or loathe it the Please Play here idea won the weekly idea warz competition. I really want to push this idea further but i'm going to need your help.

First off one everyone can help out with.

Please Play Here needs a new name. Its not catchy enough. If you have a better idea for a name. Please respond.

there are $10 for the person who comes up with the best name.

second off... the dreaded word funding. Its a crucial part of any start-up business. And like most start-up businesses i have no funds. If you are interested in investing in Please Play here for a portion of royalty points then please get in contact!

Lastly and more importantly, The actual website. I need huge help with the technical side of things. It will become blatantly obvious within the first few minutes talking with me that i don't know how to complete my idea technically. If you are interested in helping me out. Please get in contact. This is where a large portion of the money is going. So if you can help out then its likely that a large portion of the money will be going to you.

anyway thanks for your time. i hope you can help Happy

I can't give money, but I can give time (for royalty I hope...) as I mentioned in my PM.

I have some web resources at my disposal (My site is at http://www.spunkysoftware.com) I will have some open time in 2-3 weeks, but it is good to get the ball rolling right now.

Wow thanks very much for the responce, i'm quite overwhelmed.

I've picked out some of my favourite names. However non so far have suddenly stuck out as The one. I'll like to wrap the name up by the end of the weekend.

Favourite names so far - in no particular order.

1. Bandfill
2. Show Starters
3. live listeners
4. Tour stops
5. Sell out Gigs (derived from summertimes club bookers)
6. Sell out venues (derived from summertimes club bookers)
7. Like it Live (derived from summertimes we like it live)
8. Love it live (derived from summertimes we like it live)
9. Band together
10. Gig together (derived from culture fish's band together)
11. bring on the band.

There really are some great names there. Please send more in. The more the merrier, also if you like a name that someone else has mention please say so as it'll be nice to get another judgement.

Any name that i cam up with i will give credit (and the money!) to the person who's idea for a name i got it from.

Onto the technical side,

I've finally typed out a list of features for the website. If anybody can help please speak up!

1. Member login/sign up
2. Band Sign in/sign up
3. Poll feature on bands profile
4. Venue database
5. Band profiles - Members can leave comments*
6. Payment system

* = Future development

More will be obviously added however this is just the basics

First off i need a hosting package/company that will be able to cope with the features i have planned.

Second, if anybody can complete or knows how to do any of the tasks above then i can give you some royalty points (hopefully cash when i get some funding!)

On the money side,

yeh i'm going to struggle at funding this project. I will try and do the best i personally can by adding some of my own money into the business.

Just tell me what you think about the idea of selling 1 royalty point off, of the business for $10 (its just an idea if anybody agrees with it then let me know as its one of the only ways i can think of funding the project.)

ccozad i will get into contact with you very soon about your proposal.

I will be sending out team offers to all who have been helpful, please accept as its an easy way of sending you money. If you don't want to accept i won't be offended Happy

thanks for reading this Goliath of a post!

i really like culturefish's "Bring on the Band", but I would also consider "Bring the Band".

You mentioned including the club owners after you get things started, but I think we should consider their important role early on. They are already trying to match entertainers and show goers, but I hope it could be a value added proposition for them, and not just competition.

Excellent point. Really all parties involved needs to feel some value add.

The clubs need to feel that this activity is helping their business.

The users need to feel like their vote counts.

The bands need to feel like they are connecting with their fans.

Ok i see your point! Its actually an excellent idea to include the venues in this venture.

So now i need three different log-in features!

I was also thinking that we can make this feature even better by adding a *insert band name here* has played here (obviously the proud venue owner will fill this in. and like a Member bit saying "I'm a regular/local!" or "I've been here"

the more it comes to my attention the better the feature sounds!

Now this is crowd sourcing Happy

BTW what do people think about selling the royalty for $10 a piece, i can only give so much so i'd like to see whether people can invest in this project even if its only a small investment. Well i'll see what you think first anyway.

Well, you probably want to figure out how much you need, then consider how much royalty you are willing to give up... then it is just a simple division exercise.

(So if you need $2000, and are willing to give up 100 points, then each point is worth $20)

I have a friend in another city that collaborated with members of the local blues society to hire a top local musician to play a house party. They didn’t have a big enough house to host the whole band, but they got to meet, feed, pay, and listen to a couple of the guys play their music. The story is an inspiration to me.

Scale the house party concept up to a small club: I lived in another city where a music lover bought a movie theater and converted it to a small music hall. He changed the seating slightly and booked some amazing shows. They were usually well known traveling acts that did an 8:00 and 11:00 show (usually just one night). The bar next door would have similar music booked most nights.

Back in Los Angeles; ~1994 or 95: Someone arranged an Eric Clapton show at a 500-seat theatre. Tickets were sold by phone only, and everyone who got a connection was allowed to buy two tickets by credit card. I was not one of the 250 lucky ones, but the idea sure was inspiring.

(Member bit saying "I'm a regular/local!"Wink Yes, locals do have their favorite clubs and are often friends with the owners and staff.

Don’t forget local festivals. This might be the place to start, as the fans could get the momentum going as fast, or faster than the organizers, and probably without stepping on any toes.

This guy played music, managed musicians, and managed a music club:
“…manager of the Lighthouse Café … Rumsey considers himself more of a salesman than anything else - selling the various talented musicians that came to play at the Lighthouse. … I was selling every guy that was in that band all the time."

“…local festivals. This might be the place to start, as the fans could get the momentum going as fast, or faster than the organizers, and probably without stepping on any toes.”

Los Angeles seems to have dozens of summer music festivals (last summer’s printed guide was a booklet of many pages and hundreds of acts). Chicago has a similar cornucopia of festivals. It really doesn’t go out of style. The only problem with considering venue managers and festival committees is that it forces us to commit efforts in a given place. Still, this is what we need to rise above a simple fan club. Maybe we can find a music festival that is still trying to fill some performance slots and start some connections between candidate bands and their fans.

Many will recall going to a large show where a local or regional band play a warm-up session. We might be able to use this protocol in the model.

Also, recall that some stars will occasionally surprise the audience and join-in at club shows. I really think this is a gesture between musicians and friends, but maybe someone will have some idea to facilitate this tactfully.

There are two types of music: good and bad __ Dr. John, relating a lesson from his uncle.

bentobox pointed to this site on Woodstock’s idea “Mass lobby greedy corporations”

https://www.thepoint...an-beethoven-campout

“Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven veteran indie rock- alt-country- alternative bands will perform at the 4th annual Campout in Pioneertown California Sept 11th-13th 2008 if they get a minimum of 150 people to commit to attending the festival by July 1st 2008.”

I found the implementation analogous to “A live crowd”. “The Point” is a nice model to emulate, and it encourages combining the “A live crowd” and “Mass lobby greedy corporation” concepts. What do you think?
