I am looking for developers to help me get this business up and running. I have one developer who is interested but is tied up with other projects and won't be available for a week or so.

I have contacted two firefox extension developers whose extensions are GL and they say we may use them any way we would like.

Besides the extension we will need a database developer (MYSQL) and a website developer. I can do some of the design myself.

The two developers also said the idea is needed and that it is very doable.

If you're interested, just click to join the business.

One partner joined. Thanks.

Anyone who knows XML, XUL, or Javascript be sure to join up.

We will also need a MYSQL database and someone to put the website together.

Also, even if you don't know programming we will still need partners to help brainstorm this idea into a workable BETA.

Another visionary!

I would like to welcome Muon to the Berryit team.

We need more help, even if you're not a coder. We need people with experience putting something like this together and also people to help kick some ideas around.

I'd love to take a look at the website once you're (partly) ready and give some positive advice.

A DBA type would be especially valuable...

We should have the project generally scoped out over the next week or two.

I'd me interested in helping once you get it up and running.

In the meantime: I'll generate some ideas and throw them out there.

Ok - here is my first brainstorm:

You'll need an internal rating system of sorts.

What is the absolutle worst type of site?
What makes it the worst type of site? Is it;
1) graphics?
2) Overly advertised?
3) Is it content?
4) Broken links?
5) Poor business practices?
6) No longer exists?

Then you'll need an easy review system:

You can visit: http://www.overstock...472758/product.html? and take
a look at the review section below.

Then you'll need a easy-sociable: "Don't Digg" for example.

Then you'll need to collect the site owner info and let them know that they are getting negative reviews.

Ok - so let's put it to a test..

http://www.mondoshirts.com/ - will take you to one of those dead sites that are used as ad reroutes (I hate that - a complete
wasted of time)

I click on "Don't digg" in my browser bar...

This site gets 1 star for "Ad Re-route"

My Review: Don't visit - it's a deal link.

Your mission: after a certian number of "Don't Digg" - Notify Google/Yahoo/MSN that it's a dead link and ask for removal.
Try to contact site owner.

We're rolling now! Muon is heading up the project and has really got things moving quickly. I really like the rating system idea from chas2002. A particular site may not be bad enough to be berried but may need some attention. Maybe 1-5 berries for the rating system instead of stars?

My initial thoughts on what we need are:

1. A website that is not too cluttered, css based, easy to use, and has a great social aspect (sites with most berries listed, newest groups, most active groups) btw, someone has suggested we not use the term "groups", how about "cluster" or "bushels"? Any suggestions?

2. A database to keep user info, group info, etc.

3. Firefox extension (IE later) that will allow a user to hit a button on the toolbar if they wish to berry a site. A box will open that will allow them to choose from a list of groups they belong to (or even join another) and then it will allow them to give a rating for the site and then a comment as to why it is being berried.

4. I'm thinking we use a berryit favicon that displays beside each site that has been berried by the groups the user belongs to. Or we could display a berryit favicon beside all sites that have been berried from all members.

5. Another useful feature would be to be able to hover over a berried site and have the rating appear in the toolbar along with the comments given??? Something to think about.

So, we need a CSS site, database, extension. Anyone who knows XML,XUL,Javascript, greasemonkey, mysql, etc. Please contact me. We could use your help.

Hopefully (fingers crossed), we will get an invite to Vencorps and if we do it would be nice to get a few more people on the team. The SVN, trac, and wiki are coming along nicely and we are progressing very fast. $50,000 clams up for grabs. Let's do it right!

IMHO the stakes are higher than $50k, interviewables - Berryit is going to go the distance, so let's add at least a few more orders of magnitude, as we look to the future, yes? Ale

More team members definitely needed, though - who else wants to join us?
