Summary
Java applet that will play audio and video files on your cellphone. Aside from practical features like remembering where you were on your last MP3 file, and ability to play back DRM encrypted files (if possible), this would support visualizations (trippy images in sync with music). I think the same way custom ringtones and skinning of cellphones, people would want their cellphone to show pretty colors while playing back their music. I understand this would cut into battery life, and that a J2ME based media player would not run as efficiently as one compiled specifically for a phone's hardware. But I think we'd be looking at something that doesn't get a lot of use in a day, just during a commute, or when showing off to friends. And there's probably some good media player options people might want on a cellphone that wouldn't apply to an iPod because the machine IS a cellphone... broadcasting what you are listening to, and ability to share the track over bluetooth?
