Sensic is an open-source and partly corwdsourced modular sensor interaction platform. Sensic modules are wireless, fully programmable controllers that use the mesh-networking capabilities of the Zigbee-protocol to communicate with eachother and the computer.
You can see the final presentation of the project here. One month ago Sensic was still called openSense, as apears on the poster. Don't mind the dutch text, i've tried to explain all as clearly as possible below.
Hoping to be of any interest, I thank you advance for your curiosity!
Functional concept and use.
Each module consists of an ATmega168, a SSG01 sound coprocessor, a zigbee module and a small but useful breadboard for connection of sensors or external circuitry. The user or programmer can quickly program how the module will react on external manipulation, what data will be send to the pc and which other modules it will affect. Module manipulation can be achieved by pressing a combination of one of the four buttons or by changing sensor values on the breadboardcircuit. As a reaction the module (or some other module in the network) will respond with sound (SSG01) and light (4 multicolor leds, one underneath each button)
Broad platform.
The ease of programming of the ATmega series, the excellent connectivity of Zigbee, the DIY-character of the design and huge webcommunity support could turn sensic into the new favorite tool for musicians, intallation artists, vj's, designers, engineers, teachers, families and kids alike.
