Summary
Using the identifier strings from existing RFID tags in children's shoes, clothes, etc. this combination of hardware and software would help parents to keep tabs on their children in large public settings where children are prone to wander.
Initially, a small keychain-like reader with associated on-board firmware/software would provide parents with alerts on their straying kids. This would leverage the limited range of RFID to let parents know the child is likely no longer in sight
The preliminary personal system would be as simple as this device. However, in time, existing RFID systems could be leveraged for an enhanced software solution with triangulation capabilities not possible with the handheld / keychain style units. Such a wide-scale system might include software that could interface with a national Amber Alert program as in Canada and the U.S.
